Honouring Your Inner Self      by Kay Gire

To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you into
something else is the greatest accomplishment
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

I wish to remind you to honour your most valuable relationship - your relationship with your true Self. How often do you override your true desires? How often do you force yourself to fit into a mould of who you think you should be? How often do you deny the very essence of you? And you do this all in the pursuit of happiness! Yet ironically, it is the very thing which guarantees that you experience the exact opposite of what you set out to experience. It is by suppressing your Self, that you guarantee the feeling of unhappiness and pain & suffering.

The way I see it: It's as if you think that by perfectly being how you think others think you should be, you'll be happy. So you firstly work very hard to figure out what in your mind you think others expect/need/desire from you, then you work very hard to make yourself into that person at whatever cost to yourself because somehow you have fooled yourself into believing that you need to do all this successfully in order for you to experience happiness and to feel good. And you continue to fool yourself when you are unable to successfully force yourself and control circumstances to go according to your plan; you then try to convince yourself that the reason you feel so bad is because you failed to achieve a successful outcome of your plan. You then decide to try harder and to persevere until you achieve a successful outcome however this just continues to make you feel worse, and even when you do finally achieve a successful outcome, you don't feel the happiness you expected to feel, which causes you to feel even worse because you cannot understand how, after so much sacrifice and hard work and pain, your reward seems to have eluded you. So you decide that your original calculations when you formulated the plan was wrong and that you should start all over again, at the beginning - and the cycle of pain just perpetuates...

True happiness and success is not achieved because you proved to yourself that you are able to control yourself and circumstances sufficiently to implement and follow a plan that you created as a result of your idea of what others expect/need/desire from you. True happiness and success is achieved through you allowing yourself the freedom to be exactly as You choose to be, immaterial of others opinion of you and the external circumstances surrounding you - And continued true happiness is experienced by just continuing to allow yourself the freedom to be the You which YOU choose to be. This is when you honour your Self. This is when you honour your inner wisdom. This is true power. This is when you align with your essence and experience true fulfilment!

So how do you step out of the cycle of perpetual pain & suffering and into true happiness & fulfilment?

Step 1: DECIDE THAT YOU WANT TO MOVE BEYOND PAIN SUFFERING   This is about listening to and following your inner knowingness, when you focus on continuing to be your perception of who you are or should be - your perceived self, you feel bad and when you focus on being the real you you feel good.

Step 2: COMMIT TO REDISCOVERING YOUR TRUE SELF   There are many techniques to uncovering and aligning with your true Self. From Meditation to EFT to Present Moment Awareness - Make this into a daily ritual, where the first person you meet in your day is the real you.

Step 3: MAKE AWARENESS OF YOUR PRESENCE A HABIT   Always be aware of where you are in your thoughts and feelings; what you are currently choosing as your truth and question it - if it serves you then honour it and if you no longer wish to choose it, choose differently.

Step 4: GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION TO BE AS YOU CHOOSE    This is your life, if you were meant to live your life from someone else's perspective then you would be that person, however you are you and you are here to be you and to fully experience what it means to you; to be you. And if you are not going to be you because you are too busy being someone else, then you are not fulfilling the purpose of your life, because no-one else can be you but you and thus you will remain feeling unfulfilled.

Step 5: COMMIT TO HONOUR YOUR INNER WISDOM   It may seem selfish as you put your Self first, but this is the most sacred act that you can make for you and if everbody did this then World Peace would no longer be just a Hope but a REALITY!
